Pesticides Aren't Always the Answer—But When They Are, We Can Help You Find the One You Need
When you see a little critter chomping away at one of your favorite plants, your first instinct may be to reach for the pesticides. Indeed, there are situations where you need these products to control aphids, caterpillars, beetles, and more, but there might be friendlier solutions you can try first.
At Shades of Green Nursery + Landscape, we specialize in Texas native perennials and well-adapted annuals that are well-equipped to handle our soil, climate, and native pests. Healthy plants, which are possible with healthy soil and proper care, are better able to defend themselves against all sorts of attacks. In some cases, companion planting or other natural deterrents will do the trick, depending upon which bug is bugging you.
When nothing else is working, you may need to pick up some pesticides. At our Frisco, Texas garden center, we have a wide selection of pesticides, along with all the plants and seeds, organic fertilizer, compost, mulch, tools, and other garden necessities and gifts. Our knowledgeable staff will help you choose the pesticide that's right for you, and give you guidance on how to apply it for the best results.
Contact us or visit our garden center, and spend the day learning more about drought-tolerant landscaping while you lounge under our old cottonwood trees and stroll along the stream.
How to Choose a Pesticide
There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to pesticides. In fact, they're specially formulated to destroy specific pests to ensure they don't do any unnecessary damage. When you arrive at our garden center, our staff will ask you a few questions to help you choose a pesticide—or determine if you really need one:
- Which pest is dining on your plants? (You may want to bring a picture for us! Even if the bug is camera shy, you can take a picture of the leaf damage.)
- What is the extent of the problem?
- Are you interested in planting herbs, flowers, or other plants that are known to deter your specific pest, or that are known to attract good bugs and birds that will eat your pest as a favorite snack?
- Have you already addressed soil and overall plant health concerns that may be contributing to the pest problem?
Using the wrong pesticide won't help, and it could make matters worse by harming your good bugs or even the plants you're trying to protect. It's also important to note that pesticides can't always solve your problem completely. For example, sometimes it only works against pests in certain stages of their life cycle (it may eliminate the adult pest, but the larvae will be just fine, or vice versa).
At Shades of Green Nursery + Landscape, we're here to help your garden grow, and we're glad to share our knowledge about pesticides, when they're necessary, and how to use them effectively. Contact us for directions to our Frisco garden center, then stop by for a visit so we can help you get your pest problem under control, one way or another.
